Teacher of the Month!

NESM Voice Teacher Abi Zieger
1. What is the one thing you like most about teaching?
I really love seeing students working hard on something, no matter how fast or slow progress comes. I rejoice in the process of learning... maybe even more than in the product.
2. How do you inspire your students to practice more?
Consistency is key. I tell my students that doing short amounts of practice (even 15-20 minutes a day) consistently is much better than cramming 2 hours the day before your
lesson. It's easier that way too!
3. What part do you feel the recitals play in the development of our student musicians?
Recitals are a great opportunity to practice performing in front of a group in a low key and fun setting. You can show what you've been learning without feeling a ton of pressure.
4. What is your favorite type of music?
Folk, Indie, Classical, and Opera. Basically anything but mainstream radio! :)
5. If you could give a quick tip for vocalists, what would it be?
Practice slowly and purposefully, phrase by phrase.
A great big THANK YOU to Abi for all of her hard work at Northeast School of Music!
