IMPORTANT Virtual Recital Information!

Hello Scranton Music Academy Families! We hope everyone is healthy and well. Here is the latest information for our upcoming virtual recital scheduled for December 11th and 12th, 2021. We've been holding out hope of seeing everyone in person this winter, but with covid still going strong, we will be virtual again for the December Recital.

Everyone is welcome to participate!

Students will create their own RECORDINGS at home with the encouraged help of their parents and siblings.

IMPORTANT! Students should only record your videos in your lesson if your teacher is accompanying you. If you are using an accompaniment track, you should record your video at home. Also, if you are playing your instrument or singing with no accompaniment, you should record at home.

We will then assemble all the videos into mini concerts to be presented on the hour, on Saturday December 11, 2021 and Sunday December 12th, 2021 on our YouTube Page!

Parents (and siblings) are encouraged to help create the perfect performance at home! Be as creative as you want! You get to be the director, the set designer, the makeup artist, the cinematographer, editor and more! This is your production! Add titles in your favorite video editor and add an intro. Parents, don't worry, your kids can probably do all of these things very easily on their own, but making it a family project can be very special. Have fun with it!!

Music Students: Perform your favorite piece! Your performance should be no longer than 3 minutes. Shorter is ok too. In the video, You should say: your name, your teacher's name, the piece you are playing, and what your hobbies are! These are simply guidelines. Feel free to make your performance video any way you wish.

During your showtime, sit back on the sofa with your family, enjoy some popcorn and watch the concert on your living room TV. You'll be amazed at what everyone comes up with!

You can get started right away! We can't wait to see all of the creative performances produced by our amazing students and their families.

Please use WeTransfer.com to send your videos to info@scrantonmusiclessons.com

Deadline to submit videos is Sunday November 13th 2021 by 9:00pm, so that we have time to assemble the videos!

Here are a few pointers to help you with your Virtual Recital Video.

  • Your recital video must be recorded at home.

  • If your teacher is accompanying you, your video will be recorded in your lesson. If this is the case, you must call or text the office to schedule your recording at 570-343-9051.

  • When recording, be creative! Make a cool backdrop. Record outdoors with a scenic backdrop. Possibilities are unlimited! (It's not a requirement to make a backdrop. Just trying to foster some creativity so we can make a nice video for the students!)

  • Dress to Impress! Dress up just like you are on stage!

  • When the recording starts, introduce yourself and who your teacher is, say the name of the song you will be playing, and mention a few of your hobbies!

Example: "Hi! I'm Jack Martin. My teacher's name is Mr. Nick and I'll be playing Row Row Row Your Boat! My favorite hobby is playing with my cat, Baylor!"

If you have any questions please give the office a call at 570-343-9051.

*ACCOMPANISTS FOR VOICE STUDENTS

There are no participation fees, except for voice students who need an accompanist. If you know a pianist that could play for you, you may bring that person to accompany you. Please let your teacher know if this is the case. If you are in need of an accompanist, we can provide a professional accompanist for a nominal fee.

Please be aware that typically accompanist fees can range up to $100 per hour. SMA is fortunate to have pianists who will provide their services at an extremely reasonable fee of $25.00 per student for a rehearsal and the showcase. Voice students will be responsible for paying the $25 fee directly to the accompanist at the time of the rehearsal. Since your teacher will be at your rehearsal, this will count as one of your lessons.

IS THERE AN ADMISSION CHARGE?

The recital is free and open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. Admission is FREE but we will be accepting donations of Gloves and Socks for the homeless . One of our students and his mom have been collecting gloves and socks at Christmas time for 5 years now!

Questions? Give the office a call. (570) 570-343-9051

The recital experience is a crucial part of any performers development. I congratulate you on participating and we all look forward to your performance!

Thank you for a wonderful and successful year at Scranton Music Academy!
